More information about this job:

Marathon Oil Corporation is an international energy company engaged in exploration and production; oil sands mining; and integrated gas. Marathon, which is based in Houston, Texas, has operations in the United States, Angola, Canada, Equatorial Guinea, Indonesia, IKR (Iraqi Kurdistan Region), Libya, Norway, Poland and the United Kingdom.

We are currently looking for an experienced Advanced Reservoir Engineer for our Houston location as part of our Eagle Ford shale resource play.  Marathon has reached a definitive agreement to purchase assets in the core of the Eagle Ford shale formation in Texas in a transaction valued at $3.5 billion.  With these assets, Marathon has the potential to book up to 100 million boe of proved reserves by the end of 2011.  In addition, production is expected to increase to approximately 80,000 net boe per day by 2016 with the expectation to drill 250 – 300 wells per year over the next five to eight years. This acquisition establishes Marathon’s position in the highest value oil and condensate core area of the Eagle Ford shale.

Overview:  The successful candidate will be part of a team responsible for analysis of well performance from wells on and around Marathon’s acreage in the Eagle Ford Play in South Texas.  Plans are to drill approximately 100 wells by the end of 2013 and continue at a pace of around 60 wells per year, making this an opportunity to work in a very fast paced and rewarding environment.    This position will report to the Subsurface Manager for the Eagle Ford Asset Team and will be located in Houston.

Monitor and evaluate well performance using simulation based tools and analytic techniques.  Work with the team to integrate engineering analysis with available geological and geophysical data to identify areas of high and low potential.

Generate production forecasts for existing wells and recommend reserve bookings based on performance.  Use the data to recommend rate and recovery predictions for future wells.

Recommend data gathering and testing programs to help enhance understanding of the subsurface that can be used to optimize the economics of the program.

Identify candidates for remedial action and work with Operations and Completions to evaluate and execute plans.

Support Business Development activities by sharing learning gained from study of MOC wells.

Mentor and develop less experienced engineers on the staff.
