Overview:

Marathon Oil, an energy industry leader, is engaged in the worldwide exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas.  Marathon is currently seeking a Drilling Operations Superintendent in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to support our on-going conventional and unconventional program across the state of Oklahoma.   The position will require interfacing with an integrated exploration and production team, both in office and field environment.   The opportunity to be involved with other domestic U.S. operations, as well as International projects may be available.

Responsibilities:
  • Leads the implementation and execution of all drilling operations. Conducts operations in accordance with company policy, operating agreements, and all applicable governmental regulations.
  • Establishes clear safety and environmental performance expectations with external and internal personnel. Leads Behavior Based Safety at the field level.
  • Ensures lessons learned and best practices are captured and implements across all Oklahoma drilling rigs. Develops synergies and efficiencies of having multiple rig operations in a single basin.
  • Recognizes and focuses on opportunities that create the best value. Conducts drilling operations in an efficient manner. Recognizes and engages internal and external technical support to resolve operational challenges.
  • Establishes and ensures meaningful working relationships with contractors, regulatory personnel, & landowners.
  • Establishes clear expectations for performance and development of personnel (Field Superintendents / Drilling Supervisors). Gives timely, specific, and meaningful feedback. Recognizes traits required to achieve long range goals and objectives and makes personnel decisions accordingly. Encourages others to seek different and innovative approaches to problem solving.
  • Interfaces regularly with Completions and Operations personnel to ensure effective planning of all Oklahoma activities.  Interfaces with Land / Regulatory, Operations, and Subsurface as part of the rig schedule process.
Qualifications:
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a regular full-time basis without restrictions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively work within a multi-disciplinary team to achieve project related goals.
  • Self motivated individual with ability to work independently.
  • Knowledge of well reporting software preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively disseminate planning process and results of drilling plans.
  • Bachelors’ degree in Engineering required, Petroleum Engineering preferred.
  • Knowledge of field operations and a minimum of 7 years experience in Drilling and Completion Engineering
  • Knowledge of rig operations, directional and horizontal drilling techniques.
  • Unconventional Resource experience preferred.
