Overview:

Marathon Oil Company seeks a Land Professional for the Eagle Ford Land Team located in San Antonio, Texas.  The successful candidate will preferably have a minimum of three (3)  years Land experience in surface matters dealing with surface owners, Lessors, government officials and industry counterparts.  This position will report directly to the Eagle Ford Land Manager in San Antonio and involve close teamwork with Land Professionals, Engineers, Geoscientists and Land Analysts.  South Texas experience a plus.

Responsibilities:
  • Initially, the primary responsibility of this position will be to work with electrical co-ops and other authorities to acquire electrical ROW throughout the field area.
  • Assist with the acquisition of oil and gas pipeline ROW in operating area.

As ROW activities subside, this position will take on additional responsibilities as follows:

  • Build rapport with surface owners, lessors, government officials and industry counterparts to enhance our commitment to be the Partner of Choice.
  • Negotiate, prepare, review and handle a variety of surface Land contracts and transactions, including surface use agreements and easement agreements.  
  • Negotiate damage settlements and secure releases.
  • Review all lease and Surface Use Agreement terms and provisions and manage complex ongoing commitments and requirements contained in these agreements, ensuring Marathon’s compliance.
  • Work closely with the Subsurface group and other internal organizations to review upcoming rig schedule and identify potential issues in advance of site work.
  • When environmentally sensitive areas are encountered, work closely with HES and contractors regarding the acquisition of environmental, archeological, botany and/or wildlife surveys.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory matters relative to ongoing drilling program.
  • Coordinate well staking and similar on-ground activities in association with landowners, operations personnel, drilling reps, dirt contractors and other parties.
  • Travel required. Trips to various fields and surface locations will be required.
  • Maintain knowledge of MOC acreage inventory and Land positions in key areas, as well as monitoring competitor's Land positions. Provide information for new development opportunities and offer ideas for Land strategies and terms. Participate with engineers, geologists and drilling teams in the planning and preparation of the business unit drilling program.
  • As requested, act as the point of contact for stakeholders regarding public responsibility issues. This can involve public contact through notice letters, phone calls, regulatory process or conducting occasional public meetings.
Qualifications:

Degree:  Bachelors Required, PLM or Energy Management preferred

Experience:  At least three (3) years

Travel:  Moderate
