The primary responsibility of the Rig Mechanic is to perform preventative maintenance checks and repairs on workover rigs and equipment to ensure equipment is running within proper limitations.


Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Perform diagnosis of problems on various types of oil-well service equipment based on reports from the field; use appropriate diagnostic tests and interpret end results.
  • Perform required repairs based on troubleshooting mechanical equipment.
  • Perform routine and moderately complex scheduled maintenance or repair work including overhauling engines and transmissions.
  • Repair and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment, such as motors, transmissions, mud pumps, swivels, wranglers, crew trucks, fans, air conditioners, ect.
  • Disassemble machines and repair or replace broken parts as well as clean and lubricate parts.
  • Check mechanical equipment to diagnose trouble, adjusting functional parts of mechanical devices as necessary.
  • Inspect completed repairs by less experienced mechanics.
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections including DOT annual inspections.
  • Work in the shop or in the field depending on company rig operating procedures and receive other specialized training on the subject of Hazardous conditions.
  • Requires the ability to work extended hours in all types of weather conditions when dispatched for field repairs and maintenance.
  • Must be able to drive a company vehicle and hold a valid driver's license.


Required Skills

  • Must possess knowledge and understanding of well service/vehicle repair or preventative maintenance.
  • Must be familiar with rebuilding, inspecting and repairing equipment including hydraulic, electrical, and overhaul of engines and transmissions.
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Must be able to demonstrate safe work habits.
  • Must be able to perform the essential function in a fast paced and high stress environment.
  • Minimum of 3 years industry experience.
  • Must have to ability to weld and have AWS certification or obtain certification.

High school diploma, GED or equivalent.


Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid driver's license.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain Class B license.
