Candidates must be dynamic self starters who work collaboratively, are results oriented and driven by continuous improvement and learning. Responsibilities include developing and executing commercial strategies and regional sourcing solutions associated with Marathon's upstream spend for goods and services, managing customer and supplier relations, preparing proposals based on value generation, analyzing and preparing commercial business cases, negotiating with suppliers and the administration of transactions.  The chosen individual will collaborate with the World Wide Drilling and Completions Organization (WWD&C), Production Operations, Contract Support Center, Category Management and other Global Procurement (GP) organizations.

  1. Works with internal business partners to assess all requirements and develop sourcing and contracting strategies for goods and services.
  2. Negotiates the acquisition of goods and services, which satisfy internal business partner specifications, delivery requirements and performance and reliability expectations while optimizing the cost of materials and services within the asset.
  3. Conducts tendering processes, oversees the preparation of the tender packages, prepared evaluation matrix, prepares the tender analysis and participates in the contract award decisions.
  4. Prepares and coordinates the execution of contracts and other supply documents in a manner that ensures efficiency and compliance with procurement strategies and policy.
  5. Maintains a record of contracts, supplier agreements and other documents related to the terms and conditions of commercial relationships, scope of materials and work, supplier / contractor performance measurements, and other records of supplier / contractor qualification and approval.
  6. Analyzes the efficiencies, effectiveness and performance of the asset’s goods and services requirements and develops meaningful performance metrics to facilitate bench marking and measurement of continuous improvement initiatives.
  7. Maintains a working knowledge of legal requirements, governmental rules and regulations related to contractual documents, performance of contract work, quality assurance requirements and business relationships.  Supports the law department in the examination and litigation of legal matters related to commercial transactions.
  8. Reviews qualified vendors and contractors and develops preferred suppliers aligned with the strategic objectives of the internal business partner and Marathon.
  9. Participates in the identification and evaluation of commercial and financial processes to assess their value and applicability within the asset.
  10. Collaborates with the asset in the development of credible business cases once viable alternative strategies are developed.  Leads the process to implement new commercial strategies within the asset.
  11. Manages individual local and regional key supplier relationships to optimize the exchange of value with those companies and maximize value of the relationship for all parties.  Works with and supports the Global Category Managers regarding key supplier initiatives.
  12. Other responsibilities as advised.
  • Degree: Bachelors Required
  • Major: Supply Chain, Engineering, Science, Marketing, Business or similar discipline preferred
  • Computer Proficiencies: Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook is required. SAP MM experience is a plus.
  • Certifications: A C.P.S.M. or APICS certification or the desire to pursue such is a plus.
  • Work Experience:
    • Six years or more experience in category related goods and services as follows:
    • Procurement of goods and equipment
    • Engineering and projects procurement
    • Other associated roles
      • Senior level experience in all responsibilities as stated above and coordinates activities of complex difficulty within stated guidelines and purchasing procedures.
      • Manages priorities within assigned areas of responsibility.  Analyzes, evaluates and makes recommendations for opportunities within associated responsibilities.
      • Regularly furnishes advice and guidance to experienced professionals.
      • More experienced individuals will be capable of coordinating complex purchasing and contracting issues of a high technical nature.
      • Actively pursues value opportunities and process improvements related to the procurement activities.
      • Under broad direction, able to work independently and effectively.
