Marathon has reached a definitive agreement to purchase assets in the core of the Eagle Ford shale formation in Texas in a transaction valued at $3.5 billion. With the recently announced acquisition of additional acreage in the play, Marathon’s net leasehold position increased to 285,000 acres, the team has aggressive plans to manage up to 20 rigs and a multitude of wells required to develop the field.


The workover supervisor will be responsible for the daily operations of workover and service rigs. Duties include ensuring safe operations, the prioritization of wellwork, on-site supervision, documentation and tracking. This position will also be responsible for the training of rig crews in Marathon's procedures and policies. The workover supervisor will be responsible for R&M well work on any existing wells and newly drilled wells.


The position will be located in Kenedy, Texas and report to the Production Superintendent.

  • Ensure the safe and efficient operations of contract workover rigs on both oil and gas wells. Drive continuous improvement in safety aspects of rig operations by initiating proactive programs and policies. This will include leading weekly safety meetings for the entire workover group and regular participation in job site tailgate safety meetings.
  • Drive for environmental proactivity in well site work. This will include monitoring of well site diking for SPCC control, use of appropriate equipment to minimize environmental damage, and clean-up and reporting of spills as required.
  • Prioritize wellwork to minimize deferred production and reduce rig costs.
  • Develop and maintain job safety analysis (JSAs)- pulling procedures, pump handling and installation, cleanout methods and procedures, etc.
  • Provide input on workover/recompletion design to engineering.
  • Drive cost reduction by leading the Failure Analysis Team and by providing timely reporting and feedback on conditions seen in the field to engineering
  • Material Transfer documentation and tracking

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent


Experience: 5+ years of working with service and workover rigs as a workover supervisor with duties including stimulation and failure analysis or similar duties;

Production experience with artificial lift equipment (preferred)


Computer Proficiency: MS Office Suite; Wellview


Certifications: WellControl (preferred)
